Technical Support Facilitator (Biology)

Exeter CollegeDevon

Due to the retirement of a long-standing post-holder, an opportunity has arisen to join Exeter College and the biology team as a technician. Biology is taught within the Outstanding Faculty of Maths and Science and has continues to enjoy exceptional student outcomes and a high level of progression in the STEM areas. The faculty was awarded grade 1 in the Ofsted inspection in 2014 and has continued to grow and develop its provision ever since. The faculty delivers a range of A levels, Level 3 BTEC Applied Science, Access to HE courses, International Baccalaureate, and GCSE. You will be joining an existing experienced, supportive team who have a passion for the subject and a strong commitment to sharing ideas and resources, as part of a forward-looking Biomedical Sciences team lead by a Curriculum Area Manager.

The technician team is experienced and supportive. You will collaborate with two other technicians in Chemistry and Physics, and jointly supporting other areas such as Geology and Environmental Science. You will be directly working with teaching staff and have the opportunity to support and demonstrate practical techniques to students where appropriate. You will also work closely with the faculty coordinator, ordering equipment and resources and collaborating on rooming requirements. The Faculty is based in the modern purpose-built Maths and Science Centre including four large biology labs, a preparation room and a storeroom.

You will be an effective communicator and team member with the IT skills to support your work, as well as having the technical background for the role as described in the Job Description. We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong desire to work in an educational setting; supporting teaching staff to enable learners to develop the skills required for their chosen progression routes.

The previous post-holder also ran the faculty tea kitty. No pressure!
