Job overview

Due to the progression of the current post-holder, an opportunity has arisen to join Exeter College as a technician supporting the science delivery of the college. A particular focus will be supporting physics, geology and environmental science. These are taught within the Outstanding Faculty of Maths and Science which continues to enjoy exceptional student outcomes and a high level of progression in the STEM areas. The faculty was awarded grade 1 in the Ofsted inspection in 2014 and has continued to grow and develop its provision since. The faculty delivers a range of A levels, Level 3 BTEC Applied Science, Access to HE courses, International Baccalaureate, and GCSE. The Faculty is based in the modern Maths and Science Centre including purpose-built subject-specialist labs and dedicated preparation rooms. You will be joining an existing experienced, supportive team of subject specialist teachers, as part of a forward-looking Physical Sciences team lead by a Curriculum Area Manager. 

You will be primarily based in the physics department and will collaborate with the other technicians based in Chemistry and Biology. You will be directly working with teaching staff and have the opportunity to support and demonstrate practical techniques to students where appropriate. You will also work closely with the Faculty Operations officer, ordering equipment and resources and collaborating on rooming requirements. 

You will be an effective communicator and team member with the IT skills to support your work, as well as having the technical background for the role as described in the Job Description. We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong desire to work in an educational setting; supporting teaching staff to enable learners to develop the skills required for their chosen progression routes.

Traditionally this role has also had responsibility for coordinating the faculty laptop trolley logistics and supporting with a range of other tasks within the faculty. We anticipate the successful post holder will take up the role at the first available opportunity.
