This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful Art, Design and Technology department. We are seeking a colleague who is organised and keen to learn, and has technology workshop experience or the ability to learn skills within the environment. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Art, Design and Technology in providing technical support services for the department.

The purpose of the role is to provide support to teaching staff in the Design Technology department. The post holder will prepare and provide materials for lessons, ensure stock levels are maintained, support with ensuring all health and safety regulations is adhered to, undertake administration tasks, cleaning of equipment and facilities and make regular checks of all machinery. They may also support in lessons where appropriate and in negotiation.

The successful candidate will have daily contact with students therefore must have the ability to relate well to all young people.

Training and support would be given to any successful candidate, to upskill knowledge in IT and CAD/CAM, on workshop machinery, to work with woods, plastics and metals and gain expertise in health and safety procedures and routines.

This role would suit someone who is looking to explore the route into teaching with a passion for design technology, or someone who has worked within the engineering industry, or someone who has worked with young people in a learning environment and is keen to develop a creative subject focus role. It would also suit someone looking for a new challenge and a career change.

About Altwood Church of England School

Altwood Church of England School is a mixed 11-18 secondary school and the only Church of England secondary school in Maidenhead, Berkshire.  Altwood School converted to academy status in August 2012. The pupil roll is around 780, including some 140 students who attend the school’s sixth form.

In 1836, the school site was home to Boyn Hill Church of England Senior Girls School and St Lukes Church of England Secondary Boys School but in 1907 the two schools merged to produce a coeducational school called Altwood Church of England Secondary School. Altwood School became a comprehensive school in 1975 and a Business and Enterprise College specialist school in 2007.

Altwood Church of England School welcomes pupils of all faiths and no faith, but expects its Christian ethos to be respected.
