Kenton School is a vibrant and inclusive secondary school at the heart of the community we serve. With around 1,800 students, we are amongst the largest schools in the North East. 

At Kenton, we are clear about our vision; Students are at the centre of everything we do. Through collaboration, every aspect of our work is of high quality. Our academies deliver an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that enables all students to excel academically and socially.

Our Technology team comprises eight teachers and two part-time technicians. The curriculum starts with KS2 tasks that we deliver through transition lessons with our primary feeder schools through to A Level courses in Post 16.  Our KS3 students experience all specialist areas targeting progressive design and make skills through a carousel of Food, Electronics, Resistant Materials and Engineering activities and design briefs.  At Key Stage 4 students can choose to study from a range of Level 1&2 qualifications including BTEC Engineering, Hospitality and Catering, Motor Vehicles, Resistant Materials and Hair and Beauty courses.  At KS5, we offer Level 3 BTEC Engineering and Hospitality and Catering.   

The faculty is well resourced with an ICT design suite, laser cutters, CNC routers, metal working lathes, fully equipped and working motor vehicle garage, hair and beauty salons and high specification food rooms.

  • A broad base of subject knowledge   
  • A proven track record of effectiveness and impact as a classroom teacher   
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data effectively to track progress and raise achievement    
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to present your views and opinions and to challenge, give feedback and take feedback constructively   
  • The ability to work effectively with all students, engaging them through exciting yet challenging lessons and embedding a culture of high expectations and positive behaviour for learning   
  • The potential to think and act strategically with the innovation and initiative to support the visions and aims of the department, school and wider trust

Kenton School is a mixed, mainstream, non-denominational secondary school in Newcastle upon Tyne. It caters to students aged 11-18 and has 2,010 pupils at full capacity, including 300 in the sixth form.

Kenton School was opened to pupils and staff on 17th March 1961 as a maintained comprehensive school. After 47 years in the original buildings, the school moved into new state-of-the-art premises in 2008.

Kenton School converted to academy status in 2012. In 2014, it formed Kenton Schools Academy Trust. This multi-academy trust opened Studio West, a new studio school, in West Denton in 2014.
