Bedstone College is a mixed, all-through, independent day and boarding school in Bucknell, Shropshire. It enrols three to 18-year-old students and currently accommodates around 186 pupils.

Bedstone College was founded in 1948 as an all-boys school. It remains housed in Bedstone Court, the original school building, but has been extended to include modern facilities, including a multi-purpose sports hall, a state-of-the-art music facility, and fitness and performing arts studios.

Headteacher

Mr Toby Mullins, BA, MBA, QTS

Vision and values

The school’s main aim is to build each student’s confidence so they can achieve their full potential. Teachers strive to do this by encouraging pupils to try new things, be respectful of others and have pride in themselves and their school community. The school wants its young people to be curious, robust, adaptable and tolerant.

Bedstone College offers a broad range of subjects as well as extra-curricular activities to produce well-rounded students. Core subjects such as science, English, maths, geography and foreign languages are emphasised in the curriculum. The school excels with its recreational activities. These include mountain biking, horseback riding, ice skating and rock climbing, on campus and further afield. There are bi-annual ski trips as well as other overseas visits for different subjects. All students contribute to a very active charity committee.

ISI report

“Principles and values are actively promoted which facilitate the personal development of pupils as responsible, tolerant, law-abiding citizens. Boarders’ views are actively encouraged and their opinions and concerns are appropriately considered by staff. The prefect system operating in the school is suitably managed."
