The Spanish Department is well-established and consolidated within the school. With a growing number of pupils interested in studying the language; we have developed a long tradition of commitment to our pupils, their linguistic competence, and their personal success.

Spanish is taught from Lower School 1 (Year 7) through to both A level and IB Diploma Spanish B, with healthy numbers for IGCSE and Sixth Form. The department follows the CAIE specification for IGCSE and AQA for A Level. We provide a range of opportunities for intercultural awareness and communication in Spanish through trips to Spain, theatre visits, conferences, debating competitions and other events with schools in the area, to enhance our pupils’ learning experience. 

The staff in the Spanish Department are committed and passionate about the Spanish language, with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds, nationalities, and experiences. What all members have in common is an enthusiasm for teaching and learning, and a willingness to deliver inspiring, well-planned, and effective lessons. We use technology to enhance our teaching, to engage our students and to foster independent learning inside and outside the classroom.  We place emphasis on Hispanic culture and believe in using the target language as much as possible in the classroom. 

The Spanish department seeks to appoint a colleague with a passion for languages and a desire to share that passion with pupils and colleagues. It is expected that the successful applicant is adept at working as part of a team and contributes to the continued development. To be a confident user of technology, or to have the ambition to learn how to use it in the classroom, is essential. As such, this is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who is committed to being at the forefront of innovative pedagogical methods.
