In September 2013, North Durham Academy moved into a new £30 million purpose built Campus in the heart of Stanley, offering unrivalled new facilities for our students and staff.  This role presents a fantastic opportunity for the right applicant to make a tangible impact on the local community and be a part of our journey to being outstanding in everything we do.

We are committed to lifelong learning and can provide a bespoke CPD package to support your professional development, whether you are starting out in your career, looking to expand into KS5 or simply looking for a greater teaching experience.  

Ideally for a September start, however, for the right candidate we can be flexible.  We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher, to assist the Assistant Principal of Mathematics & Numeracy and Learning Leaders in raising standards across this crucial cornerstone subject, whilst sharing your Maths/Numeracy expertise across the wider Academy.  As a consistently good/outstanding teacher, you will maximise the potential of our students by raising their aspirations as well as their attainment.

Additionally, the successful candidate will:

  • Develop and sustain high quality teaching and learning throughout the subject area
  • Demonstrate good pedagogy practice within the Learning Directorate
  • Ensure that the quality of lesson plans, the use of assessment and homework set are of the highest quality
  • Assist colleagues to ensure that all aspects of student achievement in Maths are monitored and evaluated and this information is used to inform priorities and targets for improvement
  • Support colleagues so that appropriate standards of behaviour are established and maintained

You will also have the opportunity to enthuse and share your expertise across the wider Academy and make the most of the superb facilities available to us on our fantastic new campus. All of our Maths classrooms have state-of the art facilities and are co-located around a student work area and staff social space.  All staff have free gym membership and are encouraged to take part in a wide range of staff sporting, cultural and social events arranged by colleagues in the academy.

I am so proud of the students and staff who have worked so hard to achieve this recognition. North Durham Academy is a wonderful school and inspectors clearly recognised this. We have made improvements in every part of the school and we will continue to go from strength to strength, I am truly proud to be associated with our school and its community.
