This superbly resourced British independent day school in Kazakhstan was founded in 2008 and enjoys a reputation as the best school in the country. The School is in partnership with Haileybury in the UK, and is an accredited member of COBIS.

We offer a Haileybury curriculum that is based on the British curriculum and the best of international and Kazakh curricula and cater for approximately 600 children, aged from four to eighteen.  We offer IGCSE followed by the A level programme in the Sixth Form and our pupils go on to achieve places in world class universities across the world, predominantly the UK and the US.

Almaty is a lively, family-friendly city with a rich cultural life, situated near the beautiful Tien Shan Mountains, and Kazakhstan is a diverse and fascinating country.

As an international British independent school in Almaty Kazakhstan, we are looking for teachers who care about the pupils under their guardianship and whom pupils respect, enjoy the company of and fellowship with.  We want inspirational teachers with a passion for learning and their subject areas; the manner in which learning happens and for whom education occurs both inside and outside of the classroom through a contribution to the extensive co-curricular programme we offer. Teachers who have an understanding of the independent sector and have been involved in either day or boarding schools can bring an additional dimension to Haileybury Almaty as it continues to develop over the next ten years. Above all, we want committed passionate teachers who are aligned with our vision; what we do and who wish to make a difference to our pupils’ lives.

Therefore, Haileybury Almaty invites applications from well-qualified, inspirational teachers for the following position, to start from August 2018.

The Head of Language and Learning (EAL) Faculty

This position carries whole school responsibility for EAL and involves leading teams of teachers within the Upper and Lower School in EAL. As such, the Head of Language and Learning (EAL) Faculty will support the Director of Studies in both schools in promoting, evaluating, coordinating and developing the aims and standards of the School with a particular focus on EAL.

The Head of Language and Learning (EAL) is accountable for leading the development of curriculum and improved teaching practice in the faculty, and to contribute to the ongoing professional development of all teachers in EAL.

The Lower School of Haileybury Almaty comprises pupils from Reception to Year 6 and the Upper School includes Year 7 – Year 13.  As a selective school, there is a strong emphasis on academic excellence; preparation for entrance to world class universities and holistic education.  The development of language skills is a key focus at the school with many pupils speaking English as a second language. Pupils are expected to develop their language skills at high academic levels in order to access the curriculum fully and to leave Haileybury fluent in English as well as in their first language.

All pupils are expected to attain IGCSE First Language English as well as achieving IELTS for admission to world class universities.

The position carries responsibility for leading and managing the English Academy, which coordinates programmes for pupils whose English levels are below expected levels on admission, as well as the English department in the Upper School.

Haileybury Almaty aims to deliver a stimulating and challenging curriculum and the most important part of the role is classroom teaching and the associated pastoral care of the pupils. In addition to this, the School’s emphasis on activities outside the classroom means that an effective and varied contribution to the co-curricular programme is also required. There is a comprehensive programme of co-curricular activities and all pupils and staff are expected to be active members of the community.
The Head of Faculty will be offered a two-year renewable contract, a competitive tax paid salary, accommodation, baggage allowance, medical insurance, gratuity, pension contributions and annual flights to the UK.

Haileybury Almaty is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and those connected to the school to share this commitment. Applicants for this post must be willing to undergo child protection screening including reference checks with previous employers and a DBS check or equivalent.

To apply and for further details please contact Mrs Kathryn Walsh at: by emailing your letter of application, CV, a recent photo and contact details of 3 referees.
Interviews may be held via skype or at Haileybury, Hertford, UK in the week commencing 5th February.
