BOA Creative, Digital and Performing Arts (BOA) is a 14-19 academy specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts.  The Academy opened in September 2011 and currently has over 1050 students.


In 2014, BOA won a tender to manage and operate The Old Rep Theatre. Our vision for The Old Rep is a theatre for young people, run by young people. The Old Rep is our second campus and has both amateur and professional company performances.


We are keen to appoint a Theatre Technician to deliver technical aspects at BOA and (on occasion) at the Old Rep Theatre.  We are looking for an individual to be responsible for the preparation and smooth running of stage, lighting and sound for our programme of BOA productions.


The person we seek to appoint will have a demonstrable commitment and knowledge of lighting, sound and stage, excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders and will be able to use initiative as a team worker. 


We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience of facilitating and supporting learning in areas of technical theatre

• Previous experience in professional theatre is desirable with experience in lighting control. Experience in rigging and focusing of luminaries and other equipment. 

• Proven experience of live Sound Mixing, Desk Programming and temporary installation. 

• Proven ability to operate and programme Lighting Control Platforms to an advanced standard with automated fixtures. Experience of ETC EOS Family, ION series lighting desks is essential.

• A good working knowledge of fundamental electrical practice and theory. Industry recognised qualifications would be an advantage.

• Good IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office. A working knowledge of Vectorworks or similar an advantage.

• Good communication and negotiation skills including understanding and responding to visual, oral and written instructions.

• An ability and confidence to work at height using appropriate access equipment safely.

• Experience in operation, programming and maintenance of Moving Lights and Scrollers

• Experience in Sound Design, including choosing specifications for productions is desirable

• A committed and engaged approach to realising creative concepts.

• Understanding of current design software and ability to effectively interpret plans.

• The ability to work under pressure alone or as part of an effective, creative and technically proficient team.

• An open mind to new and different ways of working and the ability to acquire new skills when needed including through CPD

• The ability to show initiative to take the lead in collaborative working environments. 

• Deliver duties at venues outside of The Old Rep and BOA.

• Support and promote all company policy, with specific attention to Equality & Diversity, Customer Care, Health & Safety and Data Protection.

• Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times with particular regard to the health, safety and welfare of customers, visitors, staff, students and yourself.

• Any other reasonable duties required to ensure the smooth running of the theatre.


Qualifications:

• A technician theatre qualification is desirable

• First Aid certificate is desirable

• Full, clean driving license (up to 3.5 tons) is desirable


Previous Experience:

• Knowledge and experience of technical equipment; Rigging through all stages to Operation and De-Rig. 

• Computer literate in Microsoft Office, Vectorworks and AutoCAD is desirable

• Knowledge of the Health & Safety legislation is desirable

• Positive, proactive, self-motivated and flexible approach

• Genuine interest in the Arts

• Ability to cope with physically demanding work

• A willingness to work evenings, overnight and at weekends when necessary

• Comfortable working at heights

• A desire to learn and develop

• Be able to show initiative and resilience when dealing with change

BOA Creative, Digital and Performing Arts Academy is a state-funded, high-performing 14 to 19 academy specialising in creative, digital and performing arts. The brand-new landmark building, located at the hub of the digital and creative industries in the West Midlands, opened September 2011.
