Uppingham School seeks to appoint a Theatre Technician for the academic year 2018-19.  This exciting post is likely to appeal to those looking to develop their skills in professional technical theatre as well as offering an opportunity to gain experience in an educational environment. The appointment is for a fixed-term period of one year in the first instance.

Uppingham Theatre is a 300-seat proscenium arch space with adjoining drama studio (160 seats).  The facilities include a large workshop, dressing rooms and rehearsal spaces.  As well as academic drama, Uppingham School regularly presents high-quality plays and musicals across the student body, from small Sixth Form productions to whole-school shows.  The venue also hosts weekly touring professional shows, comedians and speakers. Uppingham Theatre is also the home to several amateur dramatic societies and stage schools. 

The Theatre Technician will assist the Theatre Technical and Venue Manager in the daily running and maintenance of Uppingham Theatre, Williams Drama Studio, workshop and backstage spaces. They will implement and develop systems designed by the Technical Theatre and Venue Manager and assist teachers, pupils and others in using the theatre facilities. They will also supervise and be responsible for events at Uppingham Theatre during the absence of the Technical Theatre and Venue Manager.

The successful candidate will have had technical experience in theatre or large entertainment venues and have sound knowledge of the technical needs of a diverse entertainment and arts programme. They will also need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of safe working practices in a theatre and will be confident in instructing others how to use the theatre safely.
