Job overview

THEMATIC CURRICULUM TEACHER - MPS

Start: September 2019.

Lordswood Boys’ School, Birmingham.

Closing date: Friday 8th February, Midday.

Thematic Curriculum, years 7 and 8: Any specialism, any phase (secondary or primary).

NQTs (any discipline or phase) welcome.

Main scale: Primary or Secondary qualified teachers with consideration given to well qualified graduates to work in an unqualified role.

A teacher of any discipline is required to join our dedicated Thematic Curriculum team, teaching Years 7 and 8 exclusively for the 2019-2020 academic year. Teaching 18 hours per week on our thematic curriculum, you will work closely in a small team of three to develop project-based learning as part of our highly innovative practice that we are implementing following a highly successful pilot year. The rest of the time is for planning as a team and working collaboratively to ensure exceptional standards in assessment and quality assurance. You must be a strong classroom practitioner as well as a strong team player. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Full support will be given from our highly experienced curriculum leaders. Our new £14m school will have three dedicated zones for this thematic work, zones dedicated to Years 7-8 as we roll out the programme. The school will open early in the next academic year and building works are currently on-going. We would welcome applications from any discipline from PE to Philosophy, from French to Latin!

Students are taught in their form classes for 18 hours per week with the teacher delivering a range of lessons from across the spectrum of subjects, not unlike a normal primary school approach. We place the greatest importance on developing interest in learning as well as impacting on LITERACY, the absolute centrepiece of our school philosophy and improvement strategy. These roles would suit candidates more interested in the wider aspects of education rather than specific subject specialisms. This is why we would consider any graduate from any academic background. Talk to us!

Primary colleagues are more than welcome to apply as we are especially interested in placing LITERACY at the centre of the principal aims of the project.

Michael Rennie, Director of School Improvement, would be delighted to explain the vision for the Trust and provide opportunities for you to discuss what these fabulously exciting new roles really entail and what our expectations are. Alternatively, speak with Leanne Baker, Assistant Headteacher with KS3 oversight and arrange to visit us and see what we are up to! We would also like to share the following:

There has never been a better time to join us on what is already an amazing journey. Rarely has a school taken such a stride in such a space of time…and here we are on the cusp of a brand new building equipped (construction well under way) for 750 students and a 6th Form…we expect to deliver a fully staffed, oversubscribed outstanding school. Join us.
