Job overview

Are you a new graduate or looking for a change in career? Chigwell School is looking to recruit enthusiastic individuals who have the potential to become outstanding teachers.

Chigwell is a co-educational, independent day and boarding school for 1080 students aged 4 – 18 years, located on an expansive 100-acre countryside campus within view of the City of London and in zone 4 on the London Underground on the Central Line.

We are looking for well-qualified, graduates or ‘career changers’ across a variety of subject areas, to become part of our staff body and train to teach.

Our training is fully funded with close mentorship and support throughout. It is flexible in that trainees have the option to take the PGCE with QTS or QTS-only path. This role comes with considerable benefits. As a trainee at Chigwell, you will receive a competitive starting salary and all teacher training costs will be covered. Additionally, Chigwell may offer on-site accommodation if required. Other benefits include membership of the pension scheme, free lunches during term time, free on- site parking and the use of the newly opened Sports and Wellness Centre facilities. Following completion of training, many teachers choose to continue with us for their Early Career Teacher (ECT) years and beyond, often advancing into positions of responsibility, with pay increases to match.

Values and vision

Chigwell School’s motto is: “aut viam inveniam aut faciam”, a Latin phrase which means literally, “Either I shall find a way or I will make one". In-keeping with this, the school wants its students to develop a “determined, independent spirit, taking responsibility for themselves, their relationships with others, and the world around us”.

The school defines its mission as aiming to cultivate a learning community that aspires to excellence in all aspects of life, including: spiritual intellectual, moral, cultural, social and emotional aspects.

Chigwell School aims to provide a rounded education in the broadest sense, encouraging pupils to develop and discover talents and interests across and beyond the curriculum in order to help them to play a full part in the life of the school, and go on to make a positive contribution to the world.

The school hopes to be a community in which pupils develop a love of learning and are challenged to think critically, and with creative curiosity, for themselves.

ISI report

“Pupils’ personal development is excellent throughout the school. They are tolerant and appreciate non-material aspects of life. Pupils display maturity and they respect others, regardless of background or personal characteristics. They have highly developed cultural awareness and a developed understanding of British characteristics.”
