Dulwich CollegeLondon

Date posted:
Start date: September 2019
Contract type: Full Time
Salary: Undisclosed
Contract term: Fixed Term

We are looking to recruit both career changers and recent graduates to train as physics teachers.

Dulwich College is the London Hub of the National Maths & Physics SCITT, a new school centred teacher training programme that partners the state and independent school sectors. Trainees complete a year's teacher training and are awarded both qualified teacher status (QTS) and a PGCE. Trainees undertake a main school placement at either Dulwich College or one of our link schools (both state and independent) across London. They are assigned a mentor in their host school and attend a full day's formal training every Friday at Dulwich College, designed and delivered by leading physics practitioners. The course is highly subject specialised: trainees receive 14.5 days of physics specific training over the year. In the first half of the second term trainees undertake a six week second placement at a contrasting school.

Trainees are awarded a tax-free £26,000 bursary. There are also more generous scholarships available from the Institute of Physics, which the majority of our current trainees have successfully applied for. For trainees who left education some time ago, there are subject knowledge enhancement courses of various lengths available, for which trainees receive payment for completing.

Entry requirements for candidates are British citizenship and a first or second class bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, in addition to a love of their subject and a desire to work with young people.

Information about taster days at Dulwich College (comprising lesson observations and an introduction to the course) and the application and selection process can be found on the website http://www.nmapscitt.org.uk or by contacting James Rosslyn-Smith at rosslyn-smithjh@dulwich.org.uk. Applications are submitted via UCAS between now and July 2019. The course start date is September 2019.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A DBS Disclosure is required to Enhanced level. Charity 1150064
