Ryde Academy, based on the Isle of Wight, is an 11 to 18 years Secondary Academy and is sponsored by Academies Enterprise Trust (AET). The school is set in spacious grounds in the town of Ryde which is a short walk from the local esplanade; providing excellent transport links to Portsmouth and Southsea. In 2017, Ryde Academy had a new multi-million pound school building built on the existing site, with a student capacity of 1,500.
Known as the “Garden Isle” because of its beautiful landscape, unspoilt beaches, rugged coastline and beautiful countryside; the Isle of Wight is a perfect place to raise a family. Ryde Academy is easily commutable from the south coast with excellent transport links in Ryde to Portsmouth and Southsea.
We are looking to appoint multiple trainee teachers through our fantastic School Direct programme for the coming academic year, starting in September 2021. If you have previous experience working within an education or coaching/childcare setting, have a degree and a passion for becoming a teacher, we would love to hear from you.
We have 8 placements available for trainees this coming 2021 - 2022 year - in English, Geography, Design & Technology, Modern Foreign Languages and Computing as well as Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You must have a university undergraduate degree in the relevant subject area you apply to train to teach in. Ryde Academy is a strong training school, with a good cohort of School Direct teacher trainees every year so you will have a ready-made community of colleagues who are in the same position as you with whom you can share your experiences, support and best practice with. The qualified staff (including your mentor teacher) are welcoming, supportive and kind which makes for a genuine, positive learning environment. We are looking for trainees who have a vibrant personality and are prepared to continually develop their skills to ensure enjoyment and rigour in the classroom. We have a strong team ethos and are looking for like-minded people to join us!

Ryde Academy is an 11 - 18 years secondary academy situated on the picturesque Isle of Wight. There are currently 1000 students on roll but due to increasing popularity, this is set to rise to 1500. The Academy was judged as good by Ofsted in November 2016 under the leadership of its "Inspirational Principal of the Year", Joy Ballard.
Ofsted Inspectors recognised Ryde Academy as a "rapidly improved school" which "students are extremely proud to attend" and "staff feel well supported."
September 2017 marked an exciting time for the academy when it's brand new multi-million pound school building opened. The bright and airy classrooms are equipped with the very latest technology and practical subjects have designated studios, workshops and laboratories, along with a range of excellent sporting facilities.
Our Results
We are so very pleased with our recent results and exceptionally proud of our students and the incredible staff at our school who supported them. This proves that despite some of the negativity directed towards island schools, our students can and will succeed. We are aiming to build on this and we know that we can create a school our students, staff, parents and indeed the island can be proud of.
A Level
50% of students achieved A*/A and 100% of students achieved at least two A Levels or equivalent. 88% of students achieved at least three A Levels or equivalent and 56% received an A* to B in A Levels or equivalent. Our estimated Progress score was 0.1, this means that our students did on average 10% better than other students nationally.
All of our students who applied to university have achieved a place which is a fantastic result and a credit to their efforts and the work of our staff.
GCSE
54% of our students achieved A*- C EM, compared to 38% last year and the new accountability measure (Progress 8) we estimate has improved from -0.38 to -0.24 from last year.
