Job overview
This is an exciting time for the secondary schools in the St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust. We have come together to form a family of schools and together, school leaders and Trust leaders have determined the right next step is to work closely together in key areas of the curriculum. We are seeking to appoint to three new Director of Learning roles from September 2025 to drive this work through expert leadership. Our first Directors of Learning will be in RE, English, Maths and Science, with each Director responsible for creating a curriculum that is a national beacon for excellence, supporting teaching that is simply great, and inspiring the growth of other leaders through example. We are determined that through the work of this leader, our schools will all follow the very best practice at all times and that students we serve will have the best opportunity and experience through their education.
As part of a team of Directors of Learning you will not be alone. You will work in partnership with other experts to drive Trust-wide developments. Through that work you will grow towards whole school and other senior Trust leadership roles. Together, you will achieve something remarkable for the students and staff we serve.
Our schools are located in Luton, Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Slough. The role requires the post holder to have an in person presence at each school one day per week and it is essential therefore that the successful applicant is able to drive.
In your statement of application please set out the ways your experience will ensure you have the skills and knowledge to meet the requirements of the job description attached. We want to hear about your successes, the way you have implemented change successfully and that way that you inspire and lead others.
If you would like to visit our schools or discuss the role in more detail, please do get in touch - we would love to hear from you (admin@stcat.co.uk).

Ofsted report
“Teaching is usually good and some is outstanding. Teachers have good subject knowledge, present introductions clearly to classes and support students well with their learning. Teachers check on learning regularly in lessons and adapt activities where necessary so progress remains good. Students have positive attitudes to learning and behave well around the school. They say they feel safe in the school and they have a good awareness of how to keep themselves safe in different situations.
