About us

A warm welcome to Newham Community Learning. We are a local family of schools, located in the west of the London borough of Newham, providing an excellent education for children and young people aged 2 to 16 years. Together, our schools employ almost 700 people, and educate more than 5,000 students. We are a new Trust, formed in September last year further to the successful merger of two local predecessor organisations.

We have a Central Team, located at Eastlea Community School in Canning Town, which works to support the needs of all our schools. 

About the role

We are looking for a Trust HR Director to join our team and to support the development of the Trust’s HR strategy - the key elements of which are the highly professional provision of employee relations advice, staff CPD and career progression, staff wellbeing, the development of staff policies for use across the Trust, and the design and delivery of efficient and effective HR processes to support our people.

We will:

  •  Welcome you to a team of people, all of whom are totally committed to delivering a useful, effective and efficient service to our schools, so supporting them to provide the best possible outcomes for the children and young people in their care.
  • Within a supportive, collegiate environment, provide you with the freedom to design and develop the role as you see fit - enabling you to deliver an HR partnership with all our schools that meets their needs.

You will:

  • Be educated to degree level.
  • Have professional membership of the CIPD at level 7 (or at level 5 with plans to progress to level 7)
  •  Have significant experience working at a senior level in a large organisation; and
  • Be very comfortable with digital systems and processes.

The role is full-time (52 weeks per year) and will be based at our Trust Office - but for the right candidate, we would consider offering some flexibility around both hours of work and work location. Travel to our schools (all within a ten minute cycle ride from each other) will be part of the role.

About Newham Community Learning

Newham Community Learning exists in order to provide an excellent education for all young people in our community.  We are the only Trust to offer all-through provision from ages 2 - 16 within a single family of schools in Newham. September 2023 - We are delighted to partner with Teach First to deliver our School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme.  Teach First is a national charity that develops and supports teachers and leaders who are determined to make a difference where it is needed the most. As a training partner, we will be working with Teach First to deliver this one year teacher training programme, which enables participants to train and develop skills in the classroom.  It is ideal for people who are eager to learn on the job and make a difference in their community from day one.  Our Newham Community Learning SCITT booklet has further information; please email traintoteach@ncltrust.net to find out more.
