About the role

The main purpose of the role will be to drive the strategic development of both Art & Design and Design & Technology. The post holder will achieve this by building a strong, committed community of specialists across the Trust, who are passionate and enthusiastic about curriculum development and want to develop excellence in Art & Design and Design & Technology education respectively.

Who we are looking for

• Degree and/or postgraduate qualification appropriate to role 

• Evidence of commitment to further professional development 

• Knowledge of Art & Design and Design & Technology (A&D/D&T) education research and key debates within the A&D/D&T subject communities 

• Regular and enthusiastic reading and knowledge of A&D/D&T scholarship and other A&D/D&T related literature

• Knowledge of the national curriculum programme of study for A&D/D&T and of current subject developments in both subject areas

• Knowledge of current educational research, developments and issues 

• Capacity to develop, deliver, monitor and evaluate in-service training of A&D/D&T teachers to ensure that developments in A&D/D&T curricula are understood, further developed, enthusiastically embraced and efficiently taught by teachers of A&D/D&T.

• Ability to work as a team to influence, inspire and collaborate, both among personnel responsible for A&D/D&T and with senior leaders with wider school or curricular responsibilities

• A robust understanding of the challenges and strategies required to develop, adapt and apply Trust approaches to a diverse range of school and departmental environments

• Excellent subject knowledge and expertise in A&D/D&T 

• Experience of curriculum development in A&D and/or D&T 

• Experience of supporting the professional development of A&D and/or D&T educators through coaching and mentoring

• Productive participation in communities of A&D and/or D&T educators; for example, through working groups; conference presentations A&D/D&T educators; or publication or dissemination of innovations in A&D and/or D&T 

• A clear commitment to professional development, both for self and others

• Flexibility and efficiency in setting up and sustaining teams, projects and working practices

• Ability to build robust relationships with leaders in schools with trust, professionalism and courtesy at the heart.

• Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including Trustees, Trust senior staff and governors

• Current driving licence 

• Ability to work flexibly, including some weekends, evenings as and when required.

Teachers

CPD Programmes

Challenge for Outstanding Level 1 – This course is aimed at teachers who would like their teaching to be consistently graded as ‘good’ over time.

Challenge for Outstanding Level 2 – This course is aimed at teachers whose teaching is judged to be good and aspire to be consistently graded as ‘outstanding’ over time.

We also offer a comprehensive leadership and management programme.

Middle Leaders – We deliver an in-house programme for those who wish to become middle leaders or are new to the role. More experienced middle leaders have the opportunity to study the NPQML which is delivered in partnership with Ambitions School Leadership.

Senior Leaders and Aspirant Senior Leaders – We work with Ambitions School Leadership to develop the skills of our aspirant senior leaders and those new to senior leadership through the NPQSL programme. This ensures that we are developing the very best Head Teachers and Senior Leaders of the future. We continuously invest in our Leaders and Managers to develop their skills and experience and improve their internal promotion prospects, this year 85 colleagues will be attending our Leadership and Management Programmes across the Trust.
