David Ross Education Trust has a job opportunity for a Trust-Wide Subject Lead (TWSL) in Computer Science to be responsible for leading Computer Science across secondary academies within the Trust.

About the role

The main purpose of the role will be to drive the strategic development of Computer Science teaching and attainment and improvement in Computer Science curricula by working with the academies and partner schools. The Trust Computer Science Lead will achieve this by building a strong committed Computer Science community in Computer Science specialists across the trust, who are passionate, enthusiastic about curriculum development and want to develop excellence in Computer Science education. The Trust Computer Science Lead will assist Computer Science curriculum leaders in finding intellectual coherence across Computer Science curricula, teaching and assessment, ensuring that sound curricular theorising drives review and improvement.

This role will be considered for 0.4 FTE or 0.2 FTE.

Who we are looking for

        Degree in Computer Science or related area

        Qualified Teacher Status

        Higher degree and/or professional qualification

        Reformed NPQSL/H qualification or willingness to undertake the qualification

        Evidence of commitment to further professional development

        Knowledge of Computer Science education research and key debates within the Computer Science subject community

        Knowledge of the national curriculum programme of study for Computer Science and of current subject developments

        Experience of successful leadership and curriculum development in Computer Science education

        Experience in developing or contributing to teacher research in Computer Science education

        Experience of supporting the professional development of Computer Science teachers through coaching and mentoring

        Experience of initial teacher education in Computer Science, whether as Computer Science mentor and/or Computer Science coordinator /course leader, including demonstrable evidence of having shaped or influenced Computer Science components of initial teacher education and/or its mentoring practices

        Productive participation in communities of Computer Science educators

        Demonstrable track record of securing strong academic performance and raising standards of achievement through student outcomes in Computer Science

        Experience of working with or in primary schools, for example, collaborative projects or theoretical, research or policy work on progression in Computer Science education 5 - 18

        Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including Trustees, Trust senior staff and governors

        Current driving licence

        Ability to work flexibly, including some weekends, evenings as and when required.

CPD Programmes

Challenge for Outstanding Level 1 – This course is aimed at teachers who would like their teaching to be consistently graded as ‘good’ over time.

Challenge for Outstanding Level 2 – This course is aimed at teachers whose teaching is judged to be good and aspire to be consistently graded as ‘outstanding’ over time.

We also offer a comprehensive leadership and management programme.

Middle Leaders – We deliver an in-house programme for those who wish to become middle leaders or are new to the role. More experienced middle leaders have the opportunity to study the NPQML which is delivered in partnership with Ambitions School Leadership.

Senior Leaders and Aspirant Senior Leaders – We work with Ambitions School Leadership to develop the skills of our aspirant senior leaders and those new to senior leadership through the NPQSL programme. This ensures that we are developing the very best Head Teachers and Senior Leaders of the future. We continuously invest in our Leaders and Managers to develop their skills and experience and improve their internal promotion prospects, this year 85 colleagues will be attending our Leadership and Management Programmes across the Trust.
