The Board of Trustees of Learning in Harmony would like to recruit committed individuals that have extensive experience in education leadership and management to join the Trustee Board.  As a trust we have a number of exciting and challenging growth opportunities available to us and we are seeking additional members to help support, challenge and guide us in achieving our vision of Excellence for All.

Learning in Harmony is a values driven multi-academy trust comprising 7 primary schools and one all through special school.  Our schools are based in Southend on Sea and Newham.  We value innovation, integrity, enabling success and working in a nurturing environment in order to support our pupils, staff, parents, governors and trustees.

The Board meets five times per academic year, and all Trustee meetings are held in Stratford, London.  You can find out more about us at www.lihtrust.uk. 

Our existing Trustees come from a range of commercial and education leadership backgrounds, however additional trustees with experience in education leadership and management will enable us to succession plan for the future.

Requirements

To ensure that through keeping up to date with developments in the relevant field, the Trust complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations, attending training as and when available and appropriate  

To ensure that the Trust pursues its objects as defined in its Memorandum and Articles of Association  

To ensure the Trust uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects  

To contribute actively to the board of trustees’ role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation through the Chief Executive, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets

To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation, being an ambassador for the Trust and it’s work where possible  

To support the vision, values and ethos and to seek to ensure it is maintained and enhanced as appropriate  

To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation through the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Group.  

To protect and manage the property of the Trust and to ensure compliance with the Master Funding Agreement and the Academies Financial Handbook

To monitor the performance of the Chief Executive through the Chair, and the HR and Remuneration Committee, and to provide support and encouragement where required  

To read papers and to attend Board meetings and corporate events such as the Annual Governance Conference wherever possible, submitting apologies in advance if absence is unavoidable

About Learning in Harmony Trust

The Learning in Harmony Trust was formed in 2014 by a group of East London schools, and we currently consist of three London Borough of Newham Schools – Sheringham Primary School, JFK Special School and Upton Cross Primary School. A fourth local member, Hartley Primary School, joins us in April and we expect to further increase our number of schools and expand our geographical range in the near future.

Being a Trust provides an opportunity to identify best practice, both internally and externally, and to use it to improve the provision for all pupils. And although a MAT, we continue to work in partnership with other local providers.

We do not follow a school-in-a box model, and instead work collaboratively at all levels within and across each school to maximise potential through continuous challenge and support. And while there is a presumption for partnership within our Trust, there is also a commitment to schools retaining their own identity.

We are currently working on the following priorities:

• To improve further the quality of self-evaluation and school improvement planning at member schools through mutual support and challenge;

• To ensure that a quality workforce is in place by seeking opportunities to support teacher training and early development in a coordinated way;

• To ensure that middle and senior leaders are given maximum opportunities to develop, optimising their potential and retaining their expertise and experiences within the Trust;

• To ensure that the best expert and specialist support and advice is available to pupils who need it within the Trust;

• To ensure that money spent on staff and services that support the infrastructure of our schools is used most efficiently, and that where appropriate improvements are made by central coordination of key tasks and functions.
