Northampton School has a proud and successful tradition of supporting students between the ages of 11-16 years with ongoing social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Under the supervision of our well-qualified and experienced staff work together to provide positive education to their students to gain valuable life skills, qualifications and confidence to support their onward journey towards independence.

As an experienced and qualified professional Tutor/Instructor, you will work with these young people to progress them to achievement of ASDAN alongside stimulating vocational qualifications. Applicants should as a minimum possess a teaching qualification [L3 CTLLS or above] and hold a Level 2/GCSE qualification in English and Mathematics. We are seeking to appoint a lively, energetic and inspirational Tutor/Instructor to deliver Vocational and Functional Skills.

Assessor qualifications would be desirable plus experience of and empathy for working with our young people. You will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to demonstrate accomplished classroom management.

Applicants need to use innovative delivery methods to deliver the above subjects to learners making these subjects fun and engaging. Good time management and planning skills are essential.

What do we need from you?

Successful candidates will be part of a large supportive team who work holistically across Care, Education and Therapeutic services supporting each other’s practice to deliver specialist residential educational services to those with additional and complex needs; including SEMH, Autism & Asperger’s. This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with trained, qualified professionals from across our multidisciplinary team and to join an expanding, successful educational organisation.

Person Specification:

· Understanding of functional skills teaching, learning and qualifications

· Experience of working in non-mainstream settings with challenging learners

· Ability to empathise and support the development of learning

· Robust understanding of safeguarding procedures

· Ability to work as part of a small team

· Good general level of education (Teaching qualification, ideally hold a Level 2 qualification in Mathematics and English or equivalent)

· Excellent delivery and communication skills

· You must be reliable, flexible, adaptable, and possess the ability to motivate and inspire.

· Good coordination and organisational skills

· Demonstrable track record of student achievement

· Innovative, fast thinking and versatile

· Excellent time management

· Good general level of ICT skills including Microsoft Office

· Experience of working with E3/L1 qualifications
