Job overview

About the College

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the major providers of education and training in Yorkshire and Humberside. We are one of the largest providers of A Level and vocational programmes for 16 to 19 year olds in the region. We also deliver a range of Traineeships and Apprenticeships and work with over 1,000 employers, helping them to recruit apprentices and provide bespoke training for their employees. We also offer a range of Higher Education courses for full and part-time study as well as many Adult Learning opportunities.

We are proud of our outstanding success rates for students studying at all levels, which have been consistently above national averages for the last 21 years, as well as the outstanding student progression into higher-level study and employment.

We are proud to have been judged as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. We are also 'outstanding' in terms of our financial health. We have first-class resources designed with post-16 students in mind and recently opened a brand new Construction Centre. These, combined with the highest standards for individual student achievement, provide an outstanding environment for teaching and learning.

About the Department

A-level Maths teaching was singled out as outstanding by Ofsted and the excellent support received by students outside the classroom was highlighted as a particular strength of the department. We have a very large number of students studying Maths at AS and A-level, and a high proportion of these choose to take Further Maths, at least to AS, with a significant number completing the full A-level. We currently follow the MEI structured scheme and will progress with the new MEI linear specifications from September 2017.

About the Role

The teaching role will involve predominantly AS/A-level Maths and Further Maths, with the possibility of some Level 2 and/or Access to HE. The vacancy has arisen as a result of the retirement of one member of our team of eight experienced mathematicians. Candidates should hold an honours degree in Maths, along with a teaching qualification (or be willing to work towards this). We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile teacher with a successful track record of delivering a range of high quality courses in Maths and Further Maths, including both mechanics and statistics.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Miggy Biller, Head of Division of Maths on 01904 770827 or email mbiller@yorkcollege.ac.uk.

  • We are financially strong, being rated “Grade A”.
  • In August 2007 we moved into a new purpose built campus on an attractive and accessible site (adjacent to the A64 and “Park and Ride”) on the southern edge of the City of York. At £60 million this is one of the largest single re-build programmes anywhere in the country and is a flagship for the sector nationally. OFSTED rate the college an “outstanding environment for teaching and learning”.

Strong links have been built with the business community over many years through our commercial and tailored training offer.
