We seek an experienced and reflective teacher to support our Higher Education and Careers team. The school is recognised as a major player in the international universities market and we seek to consolidate and expand our reputation with universities around the world. The majority of our students still go to higher education in the UK but many now go to universities around the world including the USA, Canada and Europe. The position will be available from 1 September 23. 

The school offers personal professional development and opportunities to contribute to a culture of school improvement. Previous experience of university guidance in a US or UK International School is essential, with knowledge of the IB Diploma desirable. All staff are expected to show a genuine commitment to supporting co-curricular activities, school events and school trips

• graduate in a related degree with qualified teacher status and evidence of masters level research;
• experience with regards to preparing students for higher education institutions around the world;
• knowledgeable about different higher education systems;
• People focused person who is able to listens and offer high quality guidance advice to young people and their families;
• clear understanding of the admissions requirements and procedures for applying to universities around the world particularly the USA;
• able to represent the school on line and in person at a range of fairs and guidance events;
• clear understanding of the relevance of a progressive and inclusive careers based programme throughout the school;
• enthusiastic and innovative teacher with a genuine passion for teaching, who can motivate and inspire students;
• recent experience teaching British national curriculum and GCSE, A level or IB;
• works as a member of a team in a collaborative manner;
• committed to her/his own professional development;
• committed to contributing to a holistic approach to education
• enjoys the opportunity to participate in university and careers related co-curricular activities;
• meets our CHILD PROTECTION and SAFEGUARDING requirements in full.

To comply with Egyptian employment law, applicants must have QTS and a MINIMUM of three years teaching post qualification teaching experience.

Remuneration

The British International School, Cairo (BISC) operates a similar teaching scale to schools in the UK which increases with teaching experience. All salaries are tax free and paid in Pounds Sterling. The current basic salary for a teacher with three years’ experience is £34,000 p.a. while the salary of the majority of staff (six years experience or more) is over £40,000 p.a.

In addition all overseas contract teachers benefit from a generous housing allowance (circa £1000 per month), private BUPA Gold medical insurance, annual return flights to the UK, and 2 free places for children of school age.
