Job overview

Vice Principal, Culture and Engagement

Rushden Academy is an improving 11-18 academy, serving communities in and around Rushden in East Northamptonshire. We are proud to be part of The Education Fellowship, a multi academy trust with a growing family of academies across Northamptonshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire.

Rushden Academy is committed to improving at pace. Currently graded as requiring improvement (Ofsted, 2014) we know that we need to do more for the young people and communities we serve. Led by our new Principal, Jay Davenport, we are excited about the future. Our goal is to become an outstanding academy – in every sense of the word – that delivers on our mission to empower students to “Aspire, Explore and Succeed”.

To join us on that journey, we are seeking a new Vice Principal for Culture and Engagement. This crucial role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to join our Senior Leadership Team as we steer Rushden to outstanding. You’ll help us create an outstanding learning culture across the academy, providing professional leadership and management to our Heads of House, teaching and support staff, and taking strategic responsibility for improving progress and attainment at KS3.

Your portfolio will include support for our pastoral and wellbeing services for both students and staff, and you’ll lead on the promotion of our academy values. You’ll also be outward facing, working closely with parents and families to ensure effective communication and to keep the young people who learn with us safe, happy and demonstrating excellent behaviour for effective learning.

Reporting into our Principal, Jay Davenport, you’ll find a culture of support and challenge that will build your confidence, challenge you to perform at your best, and enable you to contribute fully to the creative and dedicated team of staff you will be joining.

You will be:

  • A colleague looking to develop your management and leadership career within a supportive team, with experience of leading whole school improvement in previous roles
  • Able to encourage and enthuse students to achieve their full potential, with experience of implementing strategies that improve attendance, progress and outcomes
  • Knowledgeable about the safeguarding and wellbeing agenda, with a strategic understanding of how to keep students safe and happy in school

In return, we can offer:

  • An academy and department that will allow you to be inspirational, creative and play an active role on our journey to outstanding
  • Professional development programmes, with a commitment to support your career ambitions
  • An academy which welcomes new ideas with energy and enthusiasm

This is a genuinely exciting time to join the team at Rushden. If you are looking to join an academy with happy positive and polite students and staff, who together are on the road to improvement and future success, we want to hear from you.

Visits to the academy are encouraged and can be arranged by contacting James Sturdy or Charlie Wiffen at Navigate. To obtain an application pack please visit http://www.jointheeducationfellowship.co.uk/jobs-at-rushden/ or email tef@navigategroup.co.uk

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 16th May.

For an informal discussion please contact Charlie Wiffen or James Sturdy at Navigate on 0203 637 5007.

The Education Fellowship is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An enhanced disclosure from the DBS will be required for this post.
