Job overview

Salford City Academy is a medium sized comprehensive school that lies in the heart of its community, a school of which everyone can feel proud, and a school that is devoted to improving the life chances of all our young people.

The Academy is based in Eccles, Manchester, just off Junction 11 of the M60 – Manchester’s ring road. It serves a predominantly white working class population and the proportion of students eligible for student premium funding is above national average. The proportion of students with special educational needs is in line with national average.   Housed in a modern building, the school has outstanding facilities and a learning environment that inspires students to do their best.

In November 2015 the Academy was judged as a ‘Good’ school. Ofsted reported that:

• Students’ behaviour and attitude to learning is good. The academy provides well-structured care and support and is exemplary in its approach to keeping students safe.

• The Academy equips students to be thoughtful, caring and active citizens in the Academy and wider society. Strong spiritual, moral and cultural development permeates through the Academy.

• The Academy safeguarding procedures are exemplary.

• The use of secure and shrewd student targets is distilled and displayed across the Academy.

In April 2017, Melanie Haselden was appointed as Principal and joined a team of ambitious senior leaders. A newly appointed Vice Principal (Pastoral care and well-being) joined the team in January 2018. Our ambition is to secure the Academy as a centre of outstanding teaching and learning where staff and students are fully supported and developed to achieve the best they can. We want to appoint a Vice Principal who has the vision, capabilities and confidence to realise this ambition and who is a confident team player with excellent communication and creative ideas.
