Job overview

Thomas Middlecott Academy is a happy, focused and determined school community of around 500 children in Kirton, near Boston. We’ve made exceptional progress on our improvement journey over the past 18 months, and we’re looking for a high-calibre Vice-Principal to join the leadership team, and consolidate the trajectory we’re on towards becoming a Good school.

The atmosphere at Thomas Middlecott Academy is exceptionally attractive. We’ve notably high standards of behaviour throughout the school, extensive enrichment opportunities – including sports, debating, and music – which are taken up enthusiastically by pupils, and a excellent reputation both with our community and our partner primary schools. Indeed, 2018’s year 7 intake was heavily oversubscribed – 189 applications for 108 places.

Though we have a rural location, the student body is very diverse, which enriches the life of the Academy immeasurably. Our culture of enjoyment, engagement and challenge inspires children, so they can move on successfully to the next phase of their lives; and having recently introduced TEEP, we’ve seen the proportion of good or better lessons improve dramatically.

This is an excellent opportunity for ambitious, talented candidates who can work with the grain of our improvement journey, taking responsibility for standards, raising attainment, data, and behaviour. You will already have held a leadership role, and be able to demonstrate the real and lasting impact you’ve made. Most importantly, you will share our deep commitment to securing the very best outcomes for children, and bring the resilience, determination and professional ability to deliver them.

Ofsted report

“The recently appointed headteacher has made an impressive start. Expectations for what students can achieve are beginning to rise and there have been improvements in behaviour and attendance. Staff, students and parents feel there have been many positive changes since April 2013. Partnerships with parents are strengthening. Students are cared for well. They feel safe in school and are confident that staff will deal with any problems that may arise. Most teachers show that they have secure subject knowledge and many have good relationships with their students. Where teaching is good, staff target questions at individual students to check the quality of their learning and to keep them fully involved in the lesson.”
