Al Basma is a popular,  high performing ENC School in Al Bahia, Abu Dhabi. We are seeking a Vice Principal to lead the secondary section of our BSO accredited school (EduBase No.143834) commencing August 2021.

Our seven form entry school caters for 1400 children from FS1 to Y13 with 450 students enrolled in Y7 to 13 in 20/21. The secondary section will continue to expand year on year until the 7 form entry currently in Y5 reaches Y13.

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the day to day running of Y7 to 13. In addition they will be assigned a whole school responsibility which will be decided upon appointment based on their personal strengths and experience.

All stakeholders embrace our motto ‘Striving to be the Best’ which is embedded in everything we do collectively and individually. As such, we place great emphasis on the professional development of all of our staff.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a central role in leading the performance management and ongoing professional development of their team including overseeing the progress of NQTs, ECTs and AO candidates in their team through UK accredited induction programmes.

As an all through school serving children from age 3 to 18 we follow the 2014 National Curriculum of England and the EYFS Statutory Framework. We use GL CAT4 and Progress tests from Y4 to Y10 in addition to offering a wide range of GCSE, iGCSE, iAS and iA Levels from Cambridge and Edexcel exam boards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that  planning, intervention, personalised pathways and the curriculum implemented in Y7 to 13 is data driven. They will also be responsible for assessment recording and reporting within the secondary section.

The school gained BSO (British Schools Overseas) accreditation in May 2016. In February 2019 the second BSO inspection graded the school good with many outstanding features, with the inspectors commenting on the school’s remarkable rate of improvement. Al Basma was graded very good with outstanding features in January 2019. Protection, care, guidance and support is a particular strength of the school.

Al Basma is located in Al Bahia, a quiet and safe neighbourhood of Abu Dhabi near to the international airport and Yas Island. Dubai is a 35 minute drive from the school.

The successful candidate will show a genuine commitment to creating an inspiring and stimulating child-centered learning environment. Candidates should be committed to ongoing school improvement and feel comfortable in a climate of innovative and creative development.

We welcome applications from candidates with:

10 years of experience in secondary education and 3 years of experience in leadership in a secondary setting in  a British school in the UK or overseas.

• An Internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education with QTS with a minimum of 10 years experience in education and 3 years of leadership experience.

or

• An Internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in the subject of the teaching qualification or a closely related subject plus an internationally recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE or PGDE in Secondary Education and QTS or equivalent.

Please note two supporting references, an experience letter and a police clearance certificate, ACRO or DBS no more than 3 months old must be provided.

Al Basma British School is a co-educational independent all-through school. It is based in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

The school opened its doors in 2014. Students follow the National Curriculum of England, with additional lessons in Arabic language, UAE Social Studies and Islamic Studies (for Muslim students) to meet the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Education. In terms of facilities, the school has 2 multi-purpose sports halls, 2 swimming pools, play areas, a medical clinic with experienced nurses, 2 cafeterias, an administration hub, well resourced classrooms equipped with interactive panels and whiteboards, extensive STEM facilities, performance and visual arts studios and designated 6th form areas.
