Salwa School is now seeking to appoint a Vice Principal, for September 2023, who wishes to be part of a professionally dynamic, supportive and forward-thinking learning community, in a lovely, safe, family-friendly setting.

Nestled by the clear blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, Salwa School, Kuwait, provides a British Curriculum education for over 1800 students. The school and its parent group are expanding and require talented and committed colleagues to join the school.

Situated close to the cosmopolitan capital, Kuwait City, with its multitude of eating, leisure and shopping opportunities and just a 20-minute drive from Kuwait International Airport, the school currently has provision from Early Years to Year 10. The school is currently working towards offering IGCSE and A-Level provision as the school continues to grow. BSO accredited, and a member of COBIS, the school has grown markedly over the past five years, both in student numbers and in its reputation for student care.

About the role

The role requires a candidate who can support the Principal’s leadership and management of the school and to ensure the smooth operation of the

school by:

- Facilitating the professional growth of teachers,

competent delivery of the curriculum and all-round

educational development of students.

-Implementing and executing school policies,

administrative rules and regulations.

- Deputising for the Principal in the Principal’s absence.

About you 

You will be keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise and work collaboratively with the team. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with colleagues, parents and students.

You will be able to  

- Play a leading role, working with Year Leaders, to

ensure the implementation and evaluation of the

curriculum for all subject areas.

- Ensure student tracking and reporting systems are

being used correctly, completed fully and submitted

on time.

- Lead assemblies and coordinate the planning for

other special assemblies and class assemblies.

- Co-coordinate social and re-creational programme,

including educational excursions, and special events

throughout the year.

- Devise and implement a rota and duties to ensure

supervision of classroom and playground activities of

the pupils throughout the school day.

- Place pupils in classes in the most appropriate

educational environment subject to the approval of the Principal.

- Allocate agreed duties and responsibilities and

manage school timetabling.

- Communicate and implement school policies,

administrative rules and regulations.

- Undertake regular classroom observations, writing

performance evaluations and providing feedback to

staff.

- Identify staff development requirements and ensure

these are met appropriately through training,

coaching, mentoring or support.

- Work with Year Leaders and teachers in sharing

ideas, techniques, and procedures for improvement

of learning and the learning environment.

Guide and help teachers by conducting classroom

visits and demonstrations to promote professional

practice.

- Coordinate cover for absent staff.

- Maintain consistent lines of communication with

parents.

- Arrange for parent/teacher evenings, interviews,

seminars and workshops.

- Ensure that parents are informed of school activities

via school letters, bulletins and newsletters.

-Intervene and mediate in the event of a dispute

between a teacher and parent(s), referring to the

Principal if necessary.

- Prepare estimates of school needs, selecting student

workbooks, technology materials, library books and

other materials and equipment within the annual

school budget.

-Complete administrative reports, data analysis and other communications as requested.

- Work with the School Nurse to ensure a safe learning

environment;

- develop and maintain emergency response plans for

the school as required by MOE;

- With the Principal and School Nurse, plan and

conduct emergency drills once each term.

- Take responsibility for organisation of open

evenings/days and other marketing activities.

- Liaise with academic managers in EPG branches

to organise transition and guidance processes

and events for students transferring from Early

Years or between Primary Schools.

-Deputise for the Principal when the Principal is away

from the school by fulfilling Principal functions,

providing leadership to staff, students and parents

and upholding the mission, vision and values of EPG.

- Support teacher recruitment by conducting

interviews and assessing candidate suitability.

Other duties

Undertake such other duties as the Principal may

determine to ensure:

- the continued delivery of the vision, mission, viability,

and progress of the school including teaching

responsibilities as required, supporting colleagues

and staff in times of crisis or student incidents.

- Participate in leadership of the ongoing process of

self-evaluation of standards for BSO accreditation and any other school inspection or accreditation.

The successful candidate must have:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

- 5 years’ experience in academic management.

- 2 years previous experience in Vice Principal role preferred.

Most importantly of all, fully subscribe to the maxim that “all complex decision-making be based on what constitutes best practice for the child”.

Students will progress to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in Key Stage 4 (15 and 16 year-olds) with the option to progress to Advanced Level Exams (A Level Exams) or international education opportunities.
