Job overview

Unique opportunity for a senior leader to work in a new all through school

Grove Academy is an all through school which opened in 2017 with both primary and secondary classes and will grow each year to a full capacity of 1,940 including a 6th form.

Our project-based curriculum is developing via ‘Big Questions’ and enables all pupils to place their learning within a real-life context with concrete experiences. We are working closely with local businesses and organisations to ensure that our new people leave Grove Academy with the skills and character for their future, along with those that employers seek.

Grove is attempting to blur the lines between primary and secondary so that we can learn from the best practices of both. As a result, staff can work with colleagues from different phases and help us shape a unique offer for our pupils. Our new school building has been designed to ensure that we can work as one caring and learning community.

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious secondary school leader to join the school to work closely with the Principal and take a lead role in driving standards and expectations across the whole school. The vacancy is ideal for a dedicated and talented school leader to develop further on their journey towards headship. Although we are looking for a person with secondary experience, this role is a whole school one and the ideal candidate is one who can help us develop our ethos of ‘One School, One Community, One Vision’

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate that they:

  • Have significant and successful experience as an Assistant Head or Deputy Head (or equivalent) in a secondary school.
  • Have experience of having worked successfully in at least one school in an urban, multi-cultural setting, teaching students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Have strong leadership skills to contribute to the success of the Grove Academy learning community.
  • Are able to embed effective strategies that establish high standards across the school to ensure that all young people achieve and attain the best that they can.

For an application pack please contact jobs@groveacademy.co.uk

Visits are strongly encouraged and to arrange please email or phone 01753 517359. The Principal Ms Andrea Fricker is keen to meet all prospective candidates.

Closing Date: 19th March 2019

Interviews to be held: Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March 2019

Grove Academy is the first all-through school to open in Slough and provides opportunity and education for 4 to 16 year olds, underpinned by high-quality teaching and learning and a common assessment framework. This continuity ensures that we can avoid the dips in performance associated with transition from one school to another.

As one school we are able to teach subjects to our younger children via specialist subject teachers, such as modern foreign languages and PE. We can provide pastoral care for children in challenging circumstances by offering a ‘joined-up’ strategy and support families more consistently over a longer time.

Our Vision, Aims & Ethos:

Grove Academy is a school where every child can feel welcome, successful and included. We want our pupils to:

· Be responsible, fully active citizens who are kind to one another, ready to learn, know how to keep themselves safe and are proud of their achievements

· Develop the confidence to participate in decision making, and have a creative input across the three areas of family well-being, public service and contribution to the economy

· Engage in a curriculum which will encourage problem solving, critical reflection, research and challenge

· Leave school confident in their ability to succeed and able to successfully access the  world of work or further/higher education

· Be able to learn new skills and engage in business markets that no one is yet able to define

· Be the future leaders of our society

· Recognise the importance of creativity and innovation to their future lives
