Job overview
We are looking for a successful leader to join our Federation as a Vice Principal on our Primary Fast Track Principal programme. The programme will suit someone who has a flair for leadership and a passion for teaching and learning.
We are offering a 2-3 year fast track programme, which provides a full time preparation placement for a current deputy, or assistant head to take on the role of Vice Principal as they aspire for their first Headship. The programme provides contrasting experiences at different Harris academies, and a bespoke mentoring and support plan in preparation for full Principalship on completion of the programme. The programme will begin with a specially selected placement at one of our South London Harris Primary academies.
We are looking for someone with a thorough understanding of school improvement strategies and an ability to motivate staff and the community towards the achievement of clear and inspirational goals.
If you are a senior leader looking for headship in the next two years, our fast track programme is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly supportive MAT as part of our succession planning to create the next generation of school leaders.
Why work for the Harris Federation?
As a top performing Multi-Academy Trust, we offer access to a professional and supportive community of academies.
Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each Harris academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal. The majority of our secondary academies are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and we are recognised for transforming the life chances of the children and teenagers we educate.
We have a strong culture of school improvement, and professional development is at the heart of the Federation. We can offer you the opportunity to gain your NPQH. The Aspiring Leaders approach prepares you to lead a school confidently and effectively, whilst offering a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best school leaders, all of whom have a wealth of knowledge and are highly experienced in improving outcomes for pupils and students.
If you would like a discussion in confidence about the post, please call Sabeena Hasan, Primary Director, on 020 8253 7777.

All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed for all applicants. In line with our commitments to safeguarding, the Harris Federation uses preferred agencies and is unable to work with any agencies where Terms of Business have not been agreed by both parties prior to an engagement.

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.
In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.
Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.
There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.
