Job overview

A native level speaker Teacher of German is required initially to be able to teach approximately 4 hours per week during term-time. Candidates should be appropriately qualified and experienced to teach pupils in KS1 up to KS4. It is desirable that the candidate has a knowledge of the German school system and curriculum.

The Languages Department

There are currently five members of staff in the Languages Department. French is taught to all pupils from Reception to Year 9 and Spanish is taught from Years 4-9. In Key Stage pupils follow the national curriculum guidelines for foreign languages in both French and Spanish. In Key Stage 4 pupils follow the GCSE Edexcel course. All pupils take either French or Spanish to GCSE. Chinese GCSE is offered for near native speakers who do not study another modern language beyond English as an additional language. German is offered throughout the school as an extra language studied after school, or as a GCSE subject. In the Sixth Form, between two and five pupils in Years 12 and 13 study French (Edexcel) and/or Spanish (Edexcel).

Pay and benefits

• The hourly rate of pay for the post is £35.61.

• There is car parking on site, and the School is easily accessible by bus.

• At specified times, staff may use the School’s Fitness Suite, and during Trinity Term staff may use the swimming pool at the advertised times.

• Staff can gain access to membership of the Westfield Health cash plan.

• Lunch for all staff is provided in the School dining room during term time

• Refreshments are provided during term time at morning break and teatime.

• All staff are offered free membership of the School library.

The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website. Candidates must not have been disqualified from working with children, and must not be named on the Children’s Barred List or be subject to any sanctions imposed by a regulatory body. An overseas police check may also be required.
