Job overview

The successful candidate will be required to teach across the year levels.  All students study  art on a semester basis in Years 7-9 following a project based learning structure.   The IGCSE programme prepares pupils to complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) Programme in Year 12 and Year 13.  Art is one of the most popular options to take at IB Diploma level in the school  

Our exceptional staff contribute significantly to the co-curricular programme and pastoral programmes demonstrating a great commitment to the students as well as the community. An excellent CPD programme is available at the school that includes professional development workshops on a range of topics.

Job Role & Responsibilities

• Work directly with children in the secondary years to foster a sense of curiosity and a culture of creativity through tinkering and creative projects. 

• Responsible for advocacy of and developing the school culture of design-thinking and entrepreneurship in synergy with the curriculum.

• Provide a stimulating environment for children and staff to work on long-term projects

• Produce display and/or documentation on projects and learning experiences that happen in the schools for learning and marketing purposes.

• Work collaboratively with children, teachers and the community of EtonHouse to develop a Visual Arts programme that supports and deepens the learning that is taking place through class initiated inquiries.

• Maintain a high standard of teaching practice and professionalism.

• Contribute to the schools PBL ethos through SMART projects

• Undertake continued professional development and bring to life the scope of Visual Arts with the school community.

• Prepare pupils for public examinations;

• Organise any non-examined assessments and moderation as required by the examination boards;

• Organise and accompany pupils on art trips to museums and galleries

• Document children’s learning making connections to The Arts Scope and Sequence of the both the IGCSE and IB DP: eg: Portfolio entries, newsletters, community display boards

• Attend weekly planning and staff meetings

• Foster links with higher education institutions to showcase students work

• Manage, develop and recommend resources for the Art & Design departments

Person specification

• The candidate should hold a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Education or equivalent, which is obtained from a recognised University or College involving not less than 3 years full time study 

• At least 2 – 5 years relevant professional teaching experience

• IB courses and training are highly valued at the appropriate level

• Knowledge of or willingness to acquire knowledge of inquiry based learning

• A commitment to the safeguarding of students

• Understanding of effective teaching and learning theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children through classroom organization, differentiation and learning strategies

• Actively integrate existing and new technology into the classroom experience to enhance and extend the learning of students

• Be an excellent classroom practitioner

• Experience of communicating effectively with a school community

• International experience is desirable

• Experience working within a specialist EAL and SEND provision

• Experience of/and or leadership training within a school context is favourable
