The Heart of Mercia Multi-Academy Trust (MAT), formed on 1 April 2019 and delivers post 16 education in Hereford, Stourbridge and Worcester. Hereford Sixth Form College is part of this Trust. The MAT has an annual budget of £28m and serves the needs of 5,500 students across the region.

 Hereford Sixth Form College Well-Being Centre offers confidential support, information and short - term counselling to students at our Well-Being Centre, within the wider framework of tutorial and pastoral support. We are seeking a volunteer trainee counsellor who is working towards their level 4/5 in Counselling training and who seeks counselling hours/experience of working with young people.

What we can offer

·A well-structured, supportive counselling placement in line with BACP guidance Good Practice in Action Factsheet 090

·On-line Induction training at the College prior to seeing students including safeguarding training

·In-house weekly clinical/managerial supervision provided by an experienced BACP accredited counsellor

·A caseload of up to four students, allocated to the volunteer trainee counsellor following an initial assessment appointment with one of the Senior Counsellors

·Development of counselling skills and expertise in counselling young people and the issues that affect them

 

What we are looking for:

·A trainee counsellor who is seeking experience of working in a College setting with young people

·We ask for commitment of one day per week: on Fridays 8.30am – 4pm, term time only, for a minimum of an academic year, commencing September 2023

· Experience of having had a significant period of personal therapy

·The volunteer trainee counsellor will be required to undertake a DBS check and to complete the College Safeguarding and Prevent Training at the start of the placement

·The volunteer trainee counsellor will be a member of BACP and will practise in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy or the BCP/UKCP equivalent

 All posts are subject to two satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS disclosure.
