Walsall Adult and Community College was formed in August 2009 following a merger of services in the borough. The college is situated in the town of Walsall in the West Midlands; we have two main sites both within a couple of miles of the town centre. Walsall has good transport links by both train and bus to Birmingham, Tamworth and the cathedral city of Lichfield.

WACC primarily serves adults aged 19 and over, the majority of our learners are part-time and we are currently expanding our full time provision for 19 – 24 year olds. We provide to approximately 8,000 learners annually and our key curriculum areas are: Skills for Life, ESOL, ICT, NVQs and vocational provision for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities and leisure provision linked to the local regeneration agenda. We also have an Employer Gateway focusing on workforce development with local employers including Walsall Council with whom we have an apprenticeship programme.  The college is looking to develop and extend its vocational offer and apprenticeship programme to further meet the needs of local adults.

The college has a refurbishment planned for the summer 2013, which will significantly update its main site and provide for modern teaching methods and new vocational learning environments as well as a Wi-Fi Cafe and enterprise display space.

As well as campus-based provision we work with many partners within their localities to meet the needs of the most disadvantaged people and families in the borough. We are developing exciting programmes with our colleagues in Social Care and Inclusion to respond to the emerging personalization agenda, including developing an urban farm and visitor centre. Our work on environmental sustainability is nationally acknowledged.

The College vision is to be the best provider of adult learning and skills in the West Midlands, meeting needs through partnerships. We are well on our way to becoming an outstanding provider with excellent success-rates, a grade 2 Ofsted in January 2010 and a significant investment in inspiring teaching and learning taking place within the college.

The college values of openness, integrity, teamwork, respect, high standards and creativity make us an exciting and innovative place to work for staff that want to work hard to achieve excellent standards for all learners. Our organisation structure and lines of communication encourage participation from all members of staff. As a learning provider, we are committed to the training and development of all our staff and provide an excellent appraisal and development package for all.
