Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new special school, part of the Unity Schools Partnership multi-academy trust, which opens in September 2023.

You will have the chance join the founding team of the school, contributing to shaping provision to transform the lives of generations of children: you will make the difference and be the difference.

The Compass School is being set up to educate young people between the ages of 7-16 who have a wide range of social, emotional and mental health needs. Many of the pupils may also be on the Autistic Spectrum. The school serves a catchment area that covers Havering and surrounding areas.

Key elements of this important role are to assist the school leadership and classroom teachers in creating a safe environment where all pupils can thrive, be happy and make progress and one which supports and builds positive, collaborative professional relationships with families and carers.

The position would suit someone with Social Work, Teaching or SENCO experience.

You will work as part of a team and take lead responsibility for welfare, safeguarding and child protection across the school.

You will play an important role in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and contribute to the welfare assessments of children.

You will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare and child protection matters and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.

You will liaise with parents and carers and build our approach to co-construction of support plans.
