About Nord Anglia Chinese International School Shanghai (NACIS)

Founded in September 2016, Nord Anglia Chinese International School Shanghai (NACIS) offers students a creative, challenging and rewarding learning experience.  

Students aged 6 to 18 years old are welcomed into our progressive and internationally-minded school community. Together with the Shanghai National Curriculum, we offer a distinctive bilingual extended learning programme leading to the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Core Requirements of the Post

In fulfilling the requirements of the post, the teacher of  PE will demonstrate essential professional characteristics, and in particular will:

▪ Be an outstanding practitioner;

▪ Contribute to the department by implementing new initiatives, ideas and polices to develop pupils learning;

▪ Monitor and track students’ progress in line with department and school assessment 

policies;

▪ Work in conjunction with the Head of department create a strong teaching team/ department;

▪ Inspire trust and confidence in students, colleagues and parents;

▪ Engage, motivate and encourage students to enquire;

▪ Promote the wider aspirations and values of the school.


Teaching and Learning

Teach students so that they achieve the best they can by:

▪ Planning effective and well-structured lessons that provide exemplary learning opportunities within the classroom including students who are high ability, special needs and/or EAL and in accordance with the school schemes of work and National Curriculum;

▪ Assess students’ progress in line with school policies and procedures including the writing of reports and attending parents’ consultation evenings;

▪ Mark and return work within agreed time span, providing feedback and targets;

▪ Setting learning and achievement targets and monitoring progress towards those targets including keeping accurate records of progress;

▪ Use data effectively to identify pupils who are underachieving in the subject and, where necessary, create and implement effective plans of action to support those pupils;

▪ Contributing to the development of schemes of work and department resources;

▪ Contributing to the implementation of new courses within the subject area;

▪ Attending department/faculty and year team meetings as part of directed time;

▪ Maintaining high levels of behaviour and discipline;

▪ Establishing a purposeful and safe learning environment;

▪ Use modern technology to enhance learning opportunities;

▪ Promote and model good relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents; Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.


Extra-Curricular Activities

▪ Support the life of the school beyond the classroom;

▪ Lead two or more agreed after-school activities each week including fixtures;

▪ Support weekend fixtures (minimum of 10 per year) and sports-focused residential trips (at least 1)

▪ Contribute to House events by either co-coordinating, running or supporting these;

▪ Participate in residential weeks and other trips as appropriate;

▪ Contribute to whole school learning initiatives during term.


PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS – Skills Knowledge and Experience

• Teaching Certificate in relevant subject and school level

• BA

• Three or more years international education experience

• Proficient English Language skills

• Relevant PD in the field of Education

• Hold a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure or equivalent for countries lived in outside of the UK.

• Compliance with visa requirements for working in Nord Anglia Chinese International School, Shanghai.

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils. And the willingness to undertake appropriate child protection training when required.

About NACIS Shanghai

NACIS Shanghai in Minhang, Shanghai, China, is a co-educational establishment catering for students aged 6-18 years. It follows the Shanghai National Curriculum, blended with other international teaching methods and philosophy, taught in Mandarin Chinese and English.

The school, which opened in 2016, is both a day and boarding school with the latter facility offering the capacity to host 180 students of varying ages.

Students attending NACIS will experience a multilingual environment where teaching of topics will be in both English and Chinese according to the content of their learning sessions. The school aims to expand its students’ horizons with a global perspective, choosing topics that will enable them to learn about the world around them, ensuring they benefit fully from their international experience.

Students transitioning from NACIS’s preparatory stage of learning into Grade 9 and 10, can take examinations in Mathematics, Science (biology, chemistry and physics), English language, Chinese and Humanities (geography, history, Global Perspectives or Business Studies). Optional subjects include modern foreign languages (Spanish and French), music, art and computer science.

Senior students from grade 10-12 benefit from independent study facilities to help stimulate both individual study and group work.
