Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position is Level 3 or degree equivalent.

The role

Smart Teachers are recruiting for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a three-form entry school in Hackney. The suitable candidate will be working with a Year 2 pupil, who requires 1:1 support due to being diagnosed with ASD. Overall, the pupil is well-behaved and simply struggles to communicate as he is non-verbal and grasp the core of the lesson, therefore simply requires an enthusiastic individual to help direct their attention within the lesson. The suitable Year 2 SEN Teaching Assistant will be able to communicate using Makaton and will have experience with Read Write Inc phonics. The school will be open to basic knowledge of Makaton if there is a willingness to improve, to better support the pupil. The ideal Year 2 SEN Teaching Assistant will also be familiar with visual cards and use resources that will help include the pupil with the general running of the day. There will be times where the suitable SEN Teaching Assistant will need to take the pupil out of the class due to their reduced attention span. There will be no personal care required and the successful SEN Teaching Assistant will only need to focus on the one pupil during lesson time and playtimes.

Requirements

To be considered for the Year 2 SEN Teaching Assistant, you must:

• Level 3 or degree equivalent qualification

• Have recent experience supporting KS1, ideally Year 2

• Have experience with SEN, ideally ASD

• Have recent or past experience working in Primary

• Eligibility to work in the UK (must have a valid visa)
