Job overview

Are you an inspiring, kind and highly-motivated teacher?

Do you have experience in teaching Lower Key Stage 2 across all subjects with a special passion for maths?

We are looking for a creative and adaptable teacher to join our passionate Wandsworth Prep team in September 2021.  Alongside your role as Year 3 class teacher,  you will specialise in teaching maths across Years 3 and 4.  We believe that English and maths should be taught by specialist teachers in KS2 and therefore this role gives you the opportunity to develop your skills across one core subject and work with our maths specialist in Upper Key Stage 2 and maths leads across the Bellevue Education group.

You will also be responsible, along with the Year 4 teacher, in delivering an engaging foundation subject curriculum through exciting termly projects.  Rather than being taught each foundation subject discretely, the children follow a new learning journey every term which alternates between fictional adventures, skills based challenges and real life competitions. Every project incorporates the National Curriculum objectives in a creative way that provides the children with a context for their learning, engaging them fully and actively in the learning process. At the end of each term we provide opportunities to showcase the learning from our projects so that the children can share their learning with family and friends.

We are a Google Chromebook school and are looking for this candidate to also use ICT in creative ways across the curriculum.

Desired skill set:

  • A passion for the teaching of maths with experience of planning, teaching and assessing alongside keeping up to date with new developments and teaching approaches
  • Experience of planning, teaching and assessing KS2 National Curriculum foundation subjects, preferably through a thematic curriculum
  • Exceptional pastoral care
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A positive attitude with a good sense of humour
  • Experience of using technology to enhance teaching and learning
  • Innovative
  • A team player
  • Organised and resourceful

Wandsworth Preparatory School is a small, one form entry independent school for boys and girls aged 4 to 11 with classes up to 18 children.   We have a simple, but strong belief here at WPS - that happy children achieve more. Positivity permeates everything we do. It enables our children to achieve great results at 11+, but more importantly it sketches out a roadmap to future successes and happiness.   Our secret is making learning fun, instilling a growth mindset from the minute children walk in the door and engendering a positive, can-do attitude from both staff and children. We are a school where curiosity is celebrated and independence encouraged.

We believe that happy teachers make happy children.  We have a nurturing ethos throughout where teachers work closely together as a team, valuing each other and feeling inspired by each other's teaching.

There is specialist teaching in music, sport and languages throughout the school and English and maths at Key Stage 2 to prepare our children for the crucial exit exams they take to a variety of senior schools in Year 6.  We are also a Forest School throughout the Key Stages.

We are part of Bellevue Education which means we are closely linked with other similar schools so teachers are able to share teaching and learning skills with their teaching colleagues in similar subject areas or year groups.

Please send a completed WPS application form, which must include a full employment history with explanation of any gaps, and details of two referees, to jo.fife@wandsworthprep.com
