Job overview

Required from September 2019, the governors and trustees of Education South West  are seeking to appoint a teacher in Upper Key Stage Two, who also has the potential to take on wider school responsibilities for leadership. You would be responsible for the day-to-day running of the class, managing teaching and support staff to ensure a stimulating, cohesive and effective learning environment. You will play a key role in the ongoing development and improvement of our school.

Blackawton Primary School is a dynamic and unique small rural primary school with a history of outstanding results at KS2; we achieve these by consistently reflecting on our practice as teachers, and facilitating the children to do so regards their own learning.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wishes to develop their leadership skills alongside supportive and experienced colleagues, and flourish in an environment that is built around the rights of the child.

You will need to be able to inspire and motivate, have high expectations, and excellent behaviour management skills.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A DBS disclosure is required for this post.

Blackawton Primary School is a Rights Respecting Gold Standard school, which is looking to recruit a rights respecting gold standard teacher. We need a passionate, motivated and committed individual, who is in the profession because they want to make a difference. Someone who has exceptionally high expectations of themselves, and the children they teach. The children have told us that their vision for the school is to have even more independence and control over their learning and to continue to be challenged. They want a teacher who is prepared to set up a learning environment, which allows them to lead their own learning - where they can be active, and not passive, learners. A teacher who will plan and execute a curriculum which respects their right to have their talents and abilities developed (Article 29), will respect their right to an opinion and take it seriously (Article 12) and will deliver a high quality education (Article 28).

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wishes to develop their leadership skills alongside supportive and experienced colleagues, and flourish in an environment that is built around the rights of the child.

Visits to the school are encouraged.

Closing date is 9am on Tuesday 23rd April 2019, with interviews to take place on Thursday 25th April 2019.

About Blackawton Primary School

Opening doors to a world of possibilities

Blackawton Primary School is a village school, which is at the centre of the local community. Our aim is to ‘Open doors to a world of possibilities,’ which we do through the core principles laid out in our school charter. We are a small school with big aspirations; we want every child to thrive in an environment that is without walls and ceilings – metaphorical and physical.  Subsequently we have developed a fantastic outdoor learning space, our 6th classroom, and every member of staff is asked to consider the question ‘why am I doing this indoors?’ when planning lessons and activities.
