The Bulmershe School are looking to appoint an Engagement Manager to be responsible for the pastoral, welfare, attendance and where needed, safeguarding in an assigned year group. You will support the Head of Year in managing and leading the engagement of students in an assigned year group. You will also act as a coach/mentor to a group of students and take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of students and young people within The Bulmershe School, to reduce and overcome barriers to personal development and progress of students.

The Inclusion Team has its own base with fantastic facilities (The Ivory Centre) which offer a superb environment in which to work and learn. We are a friendly and supportive team who have a wealth of experience. In an ever-changing world, we continue to learn and adapt in order to best support our student community.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To support in maintaining an excellent culture and a rewarding ethos within the year group based on our core values and learning behaviours.
  • To support the Head of Year by being the day-to-day point of contact for students within the year group facing issues.
  • To support the Head of Year by investigating and collecting evidence, to support the Head of Year in making behavioural next steps.
  • To proactively support student wellbeing.
  • To contribute to the meeting and greeting of students in the morning, ensuring that students are welcomed positively and are equipped for school.
  • To liaise with all internal teams and outside agencies with regards to the wellbeing of students.
  • To work closely and regularly with parents to maximise the welfare of students within their year group, including regular contact around rewards and sanctions.
  • To lead and contribute to meetings relating to the difficulties of students from within the year group, with a range of stakeholders.
  • To take responsibility for the completion of appropriate behaviour reports for students.
  • To mentor target students and set up intervention groups as appropriate, in terms of engagement and attendance.
  • To contribute to the transition arrangement for new students to the year group.
  • To support in evaluating the behaviour of students within the year group and collaboratively plan with the Head of Year on how to address issues with colleagues across the school.
  • To support the smooth running of the school at break and lunch times and through the duty system.
  • To set high expectations for student behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline based upon our core values.

The Bulmershe School is a heavily oversubscribed school which sits at the heart of the Woodley community. We are a mixed, Corvus Learning Trust Academy school of 1,500 students aged between 11 and 18, who come from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

The community school was established in 1964 and at present, has around 1,500 students on the roll with 250 pupils enrolled in our growing sixth form.

Teaching is good and sometimes outstanding. Lessons are well planned and paced so that students are engaged in their learning. Students’ behaviour, both in lessons and around the school, is very good. Students’ very positive attitudes to learning contribute to their good progress in lessons. The school is a harmonious community with good relationships between students and staff. Students feel very safe and the school promotes their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development well.”
