Job overview

Join a high-performing, Catholic secondary school that prides itself on being safe, healthy and inclusive where pupils are happy to learn, staff are happy to work. Due to the expansion of the school roll we are recruiting for a number of new posts and leadership roles.

Our 2022 results put us amongst the top-performing in the Diocese of Salford’s 30 secondaries and one of the two schools in Salford. We are well on our way to becoming an excellent school and you could be part of this journey to secure Inclusive Catholic Excellence.

Every day we live out our Catholic mission to Love, Learn and Lead. We manage to be both inclusive and high achieving. What does this look like in practice for staff?

·        You’re part of a great team, with strong CPD opportunities and a commitment to a work-life balance. Our lunchtime reading and research clubs for staff are very well attended.

·        We’re a welcoming place – you’ll even have a laugh as you do your job. Staff who have joined in the last year have said that it has reinvigorated their love of working with young people and they want to stay in the education professions. No-one likes to leave our school: we believe on holding on to our staff and pupils.

·        We have a visible, proactive and supportive SLT. They’re out before and after school and during every break and lunch. They walk the corridors, teach and know the school, the children and the staff well. They hold the line on standards and value excellent communication. Staff wellbeing is a priority – leaders’ doors are open and they listen.

·        Many of our staff live in the local community and choose to send their children to us – we have a ‘family feel’.

·        We are inclusive, SEND-focused, trauma-informed and we have high expectations and standards. We don’t give up on children. Our outcomes in 2022 are well above national averages for SEND and disadvantaged groups, but we’re not complacent and we won’t stop until we have achieved equity for all.

·        Our pupils are respectful, kind and committed – this is a place where staff can work and teach and young people can learn in a calm environment.

If you’ve fallen out of love with teaching or working in schools – we could well be the school to help you rediscover your passion. If you’re new to the education professions, we’re the ideal place to develop your gifts and talents further. If you’re not sure, phone to speak with Ben Davis, Headteacher, for an honest chat before you decide or arrange a visit.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity. Apply now to be part of something very special.

St Ambrose Barlow RC High School is a Roman Catholic Secondary School provided by the Diocese of Salford and is maintained by the Salford Local Education Authority as a Voluntary Aided School.
