Hours of work: 37 hours per week, term time only - 40 weeks per year

Salary: £19,298 - £20,139 per annum 

Duration: This is a fixed term post for 12 months. 

Location: Castleford and Wakefield City Campus


We have a fantastic opportunity for a Youth Worker to join our Additional Learning Support team. As a Youth Worker, you will provide a youth work service for students aged 13 - 15 with Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) needs on a step-off school-based programme.  You will ensure the wellbeing of students and support their potential to progress and their ability to complete the course and re-engage with school. 


This role will involve developing positive and constructive relationships with students, to enhance their personal and social education and enable them to participate fully in college activities. You will work with students individually and in groups, to overcome internal and external barriers to their education. 


We are looking for someone who has experience of engaging young people with SEMH or issues relating to trauma, as well as an awareness of personal difficulties and anxieties experienced by young people. You should also be able to positively challenge unacceptable behaviour and student attitudes where appropriate. 


This is a diverse role, where you will work within a busy environment and liaise with lots of different staff and stakeholders with the student at the heart of the role.


As a Youth Worker, you should hold:

  • A recognised Level 3 Youth Work qualification 
  • GCSE A*-C / 9 - 4 in English and Maths or equivalent 


You should also be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of supporting young people in a school setting 
  • Experience of supporting young people at risk of disengaging and addressing barriers to their education and progression
  • The ability to develop the youth work role to meet local needs
  • The ability to support students in a formal learning environment as well as in informal social/recreational situations.
