At a time when the SSA (Scottish Schoolmasters’ Association) had seemed to be running at something below its full power it has nevertheless managed to help to bring into being a partner association: it has - without quite falling into Adam’s deep sleep and presumably with no loss of rib - found an helpmeet, the Scottish Women Teachers’ Association. The SWTA will have a “joint two” arrangement with the SSA, like the “joint two” of the NAS and the UWT in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The SSA has been so unarguably a masculine organisation (its members at times arguing against the monstrous regimentation of the EIS by all of the institute’s primary women) the mind boggles at the thought of how the SSA and SWTA will cleave one unto the other.
