5-year classroom ban

A teacher who lied on a job application about convictions for conspiring to pervert the course of justice and obtaining property by deception has been banned from the profession for five years. Samantha Burmis was found guilty of the offences in 1995 and jailed for 18 months. But she failed to mention this in an application for a job as a maths teacher at Aylesford School in Warwick in 2001, and for the same post at Swadelands School in Kent in 2005. A General Teaching Council panel said Mrs Burmis has “deep-seated attitudinal issues”.
