Academy drama

19th January 2007, 12:00am
Controversies dogging the Government’s academies programme are being explored in a populist BBC1 drama.

The second series of Waterloo Road, which started last night, follows life at the fictional comprehensive. Mirroring real life, a multi-millionaire former pupil offers to sponsor the failing school so it can be rebuilt as a city academy, but then meddles in its management. The next episode goes out on Thursday at 9pm.
