Apologies to ‘truants’

28th November 2003, 12:00am
Truancy officers had to apologise to almost 1,500 pupils when they wrongly accused them of truancy.

The children, from George Stephenson high and Western primary schools, were picked up by police and education officers in North Tyneside, who were unaware that schools were closed that day for target setting.

A North Tyneside Council spokesman said: “Unfortunately something went slightly astray.”
