Appeals surge as battle to get into secondaries hots up

DIFFICULTIES over secondary admission have prompted a steep rise in appeals. Government figures reveal there were 69,210 secondary appeals last year, an increase of 9 per cent from 20001. In primary schools, the number of appeals dropped to 25,680, down 5 per cent on the previous year. A third of parents who appealed across both sectors won a place at their preferred school.
