An online exhibition of prints produced by pupils in nine schools is opening tomorrow at the MacRobert Centre in Stirling.
Still available for viewing on the web as well as on Glow, In the Hands of Willie Rodger is the culmination of an initiative in which Scotland’s foremost lino-print maker, Willie Rodger, worked with the schools using the schools’ intranet (TESS, December 12, 2008).
In October, he taught a masterclass to pupils ranging from P7-S6. Each pupil then uploaded a “print in progress” to their own page on Glow over a six-week period. Mr Rodger logged in to monitor their work and at the beginning of December conducted a tutorial with each class, advising individual pupils about how to conclude their final print.
The show, open until April 19, includes 132 of the prints. A preview session was held for teachers from Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Falkirk, taking them through the initiative and explaining how visits could be organised. An audio commentary of the exhibition is available on MP3 players. It was produced by the participating schools, as was a DVD which plays on a Plasma.
Angela McEwan, of Media Matters consultancy, who managed the initiative, said: “The exhibition is an interesting mix of the pupils’ skills in traditional art and design and new technology.”
