Auschwitz revisited

17th November 2006, 12:00am
The impact of a trip to Auschwitz has led pupils from three Fife secondary schools to plan a three-week festival in the run-up to Holocaust Memorial Day.

The pupils, from Inverkeithing High, Lochgelly High and Balwearie High, visited Auschwitz last November and wanted to pass on what they had learned to other young people. The result is Anne Frank and You, which will run in three Kirkcaldy venues from January 8-28.

The free festival will explore what happend to Anne Frank and her family, Holocaust survivors living in Scotland, and Dr Janusz Korczak, whose work with Jewish orphans helped with the development of international children’s rights. Events will include multi-media exhibitions, cultural performances and creative workshops. It will culminate in a candlelit procession marking Scotland’s response to International Holocaust Memorial Day on January 28.
