Back from the brink

Doncaster College is on the way to recovery, according to an Ofsted inspection which has found that formerly “inadequate” provision is now “satisfactory”. Achievement and standards were given a grade 3 in the reinspection, after less than a year under interim principal John Taylor. New principal George Trow took up his post on Monday, inheriting a college which inspectors said has improved financial management, better risk assessment and a significantly reduced budget. Meanwhile, Gill Alton will replace Mr Trow as principal of Rotherham College of Arts and Technology. Currently acting deputy principal at Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, Ms Alton, 48, will take up the post in August.
