When should exams be held? That is the question that Kate Hoey, a former sports minister, wants discussed.

She wants more time for sport and asks whether it would be better to hold exams in January or February. “If we are serious about sport we should look at the huge amount of time devoted to preparing for or sitting exams which could be held at other points in the year,” said the Labour MP for Vauxhall.

She told the annual Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack dinner that schools should also be given more financial assistance to improve teams’ ability to compete.
